What if you woke up one morning, and there was only ONE BOOK left in the world… |
and it was yours… |
You opened it, only to discover that The Last Book
was written in a strange picture language..
(Out of the book fell a note in English addressed to YOU that unless you deciphered the cryptic picture messages, all ocean life – except for anaerobic and chemosynthetic bacteria - would DIE!) |
You immediately understood that if ocean life were wiped out, people and other land animals would soon die, too - most probably of suffocation (since most of the planet’s oxygen is made by algae in the sea.) The next horrible fate (even if 7 million air masks could be found) would be starvation, as much of the world’s food comes from the ocean, too. |
You went to tell someone, anyone, but no one could hear you |
So, you sat down to discover the meaning of the strange symbols,
Because you were afraid not to! |
You took out your sketchbook and began to copy the
picture drawings. |
But, horror of horrors!
After only a few moments, THE LAST BOOK began to decompose in your fingers. The ink began to disappear – the pages to shrivel, like dried up sea lettuce. |
Now, only YOU knew what was in
this book that could SAVE OUR PLANET! |
And you couldn’t understand a thing it said! |
| |
| You immediately sent a HIGH PRIORITY email to author and science educator, Merrie Southgate, because you had read all the Agnes Pflumm books, and you KNEW she’d listen to you! |
Then, you called your friend, who answered! |
He called another friend, who also picked up! |
Within minutes, a web of concerned citizens all over the world knew about The Last Book and began to ask, |
Within one week, with YOU as president,
C.o.O.L, Inc. (Cohort of Ocean Learners) was established. |
This was your logo: |
| |
For her part, Merrie Southgate immediately began to write a new Agnes Pflumm book, which she would call Agnes Pflumm and the Quest for the Last Book.
It would become the final book in the Agnes Pflumm science education series. It would be a novel with a definite beginning, but whose ending would depend on the actions of its readers – both young and old. |
| |
Time is running out! |
The world needs
your help! |
| |
Agnes Pflumm’s creator, Merrie Southgate, is challenging you to come to the rescue of our planet! |

Read the first three
Agnes Pflumm novels first… |

They are all part of Merrie Southgate’s READ for SCIENCE curriculum. |
